We’re living in an age of digital revolution, where it seems each week some new thing is being released that takes us closer to the science fiction movies we grew up on. Whether it be virtual reality or larger scale artificial intelligence, we’re moving towards a world that is less what we’re used to and more like something out of a film.
Amazon isn’t going to the furthest reaches of this, but the company is taking steps to integrate A.I. into our everyday lives. The latest move involves Alexa and voice recognition — which you might be thinking is already a perk of the product.
This week it was revealed that Amazon is working on next-level voice recognition which means that Alexa will soon be able to distinguish between different voices that speak to it.
The Seattle-based technology giant has been developing a feature that would allow the voice assistant that powers its Echo line of speakers to distinguish between individual users based on their voices, according to people familiar with Amazon’s Alexa strategy.
That’s next-level, and it’s awesome. It’s also a little freaky considering the slippery slope that Sci-Fi movies have suggested we’re going to go on if we give too much power to artificial intelligence. While this isn’t a one way ticket to The Matrix, it’s interesting to ponder where A.I. will be in a handful of years if these strides can be made now.
