We’ve all heard that Amazon is working on a drone-based delivery system, but no member of the public have seen the drones in question – until now.

The highly talked about Amazon delivery drones were shown to the public for the first time at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX. People looking for the fastest delivery of goods want these to be flying so they can get whatever they want as quickly as possible.

Although using drones to deliver goods has gotten to the testing phase, it doesn’t seem that this will become a reality any time soon. Reported by Fortune, there are a lot of obstacles that stand in the way of Amazon getting their drones in the sky to deliver.

There are laws restricting drones, as well as battery life limitations. Current legislation prevents drones from being out of view of the operator. If you can’t see it, you cant fly it. Obviously if Amazon wants to use the drones to speed up delivery operations, they cannot each be individually controlled by a person watching them.

Amazon is always pushing the envelope and coming up with new things to make the online shopping experience the best it can be for its consumers. Although laws and scientific limitations currently stand in the way of this technology being used in the real-world, hopefully some day soon we can see the drones in action.

The SXSW drone debut is only a look at the drones themselves, and not them delivering, or even flying. At least we now know what could be the future of online ordering could look like.

Only time will tell when we’re able to see the drones in action, delivering goods to loyal consumers.
