Amazon’s Alexa: Coming to a smartphone near you

The Huawei Mate 9 will come preinstalled with Alexa, which is similar to Siri in apple devices or Cortana in Windows devices. The addition of Alexa to Huawei phones will come in the form of a software update that will be released on May 22nd at noon, according to CNBC.

Despite Huawei being an Chinese phone manufacturer, the update will be coming to all devices in the US today. This will only be to people who have the Mate 9, and wont be available on any other Huawei devices.

Although Huawei devices aren’t that popular in the United States, they appear to be beautiful phones, with very impressive specs. On Best Buy’s website, the Mate 9 is selling for $600, which seems like a reasonable price for the device you’re getting.

Although Alexa will become available on Huawei phones out of the box, Alexa is also now available on iPhones. To access Alexa from your iPhone, you will need the Amazon app. The app will allow Alexa to put things in your shopping cart, as well as answer some basic questions much like Siri already does.

A lot of companies are going toe-to-toe and trying to take control over the same market. All of them want to have the most advanced and powerful artificial intelligence that they can. With the option for iPhone users to access both Siri and Alexa, it will be interesting to see which AI lady is the most popular.
