Apple Acquires Health Startup Gliimpse

Apple continues to focus on health and personal fitness by acquiring the health startup Gliimspe.

One of the biggest pushes in recent years from Apple has been focusing on health and personal fitness with things like its own personal Health app. However, the company could be getting a big lift from a new acquisition.

According to Christina Farr and Mark Sullivan from Fast Company, the tech giant has acquired a personal health data startup in Gliimpse. The startup built a personalized health data platform that focuses on users being able to collect, personalize and share their health data.

Farr and Sullivan explained that the acquisition reportedly happened earlier this year, although the two companies have been quiet about it so as to keep any further developments under wraps. However, Fast Company did get a quote from Apple, with the company saying, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook has been vocal in the past about how his company could have a major impact on the health care industry, but we have yet to see anything from the company regarding making moves in this field. However, acquiring Gliimpse could be the company’s first big step in this regard, and the fact that they’re keeping this as quiet as possible could help aid that theory as they potentially try to roll out something even bigger than the health data startup.
