Australian parents are reporting that fake ISIS Lego sets are being sold to their children. The reports, including this one from The Daily Mail, relay that the sets are going for as low as $9.91 and depict what appears to be ISIS soldiers fighting counter-terrorism police.
While the sets don’t directly say that they are ISIS-related, there seems to be a flag used by the terrorist group depicted in the set. There also appears to be an act of beheading shown as part of the activities that can be played out with the set.
It’s like a really, really bad SNL skit gone horribly wrong but somehow ends up a reality.
There’s also this, which shows just how invasive the sets are:
The set is ‘recommended’ for children aged six and over and was recently purchased accidentally by a young boy from a store in Taiping for $2, according to Berita Harian.
Major retailers (obviously) aren’t selling these sets but that clearly isn’t stopping them from getting to the wrong places.
This isn’t a new thing but it’s a reminder of how sad the world is. Lego is sacred, it’s something that we all identify either our childhood or happy memories with. It’s not surprising that there’s an ISIS Lego set out there.
It’s just really disappointing.
