With its ultra-portable design, waterproof and dustproof features, and 10 hours of playtime, it’s perfect for home, outdoor, and travel use.

I recently purchased the JBL Clip 4 and have been blown away by its performance. Despite its small size, the sound quality is impressive, with rich bass and clear midrange and treble. The integrated carabiner has also been a great addition for attaching the speaker to my backpack while hiking or biking. Plus, the 10 hours of playtime means I don’t have to worry about constantly charging the battery.

JBL Clip 4: Design and Portability

With its sleek and compact design, the JBL Clip 4 is easily portable wherever you go. The integrated carabiner provides extra protection and makes it easy to clip onto your backpack, belt, or strap. The fabric-covered body ensures durability and the IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating makes it perfect for outdoor use. The design of the Sony XB13, on the other hand, is cylindrical with a mostly plastic body. While it also has an IP67 rating, the plastic body can be a scratch magnet and is not as durable as the Clip 4’s fabric-covered body. The Clip 4 wins in terms of design and portability.

Battery Life and Charging

Perfect for all-day outdoor activities, the JBL Clip 4 provides up to 10 hours of playtime on a single charge. The USB-C charging port allows for faster charging times and greater convenience. The Sony XB13, on the other hand, has an advertised battery life of 16 hours but only lasts for about 10 hours on a single charge for outdoor use. Both speakers charge via USB-C port, but neither has an audio jack. The Clip 4 wins in terms of battery life and charging.

JBL Clip 4: Connectivity and Pairing

Any Bluetooth-enabled device can be wirelessly connected to both the JBL Clip 4 and Sony XB13. Performance is excellent, with zero latency across the board, making it great for podcasts. Both speakers can only be connected to one device at a time. Unfortunately, the Clip 4 cannot be paired up to any other JBL Partyboost speakers like the Boombox 2, Xtreme 3, Charge 5, Flip 5, or Pulse 4. The Sony XB13 can be paired up to one other XB13 and get them to play in left and right stereo mode, making it more versatile. The XB13 wins in terms of pairing and connectivity.

JBL Clip 4: Sound Quality

Despite its small size, the JBL Clip 4 delivers impressive sound quality. The legendary JBL signature sound delivers surprisingly big audio and punchy bass from Clip 4’s small size. The midrange and treble are clear and well-balanced, making it ideal for listening to a wide range of music genres. The XB13 sounds fine but does not get as loud as the Clip 4. The Clip 4 also has a slight emphasis on the mid, making vocals more pronounced, which is great for outdoor use. The Clip 4 wins in terms of sound quality.

JBL Clip 4: Ease of Use

While the power and pairing buttons on the JBL Clip 4 are easy to use, they are more susceptible to accidental pressing compared to the Clip 3’s recessed buttons on the side. The Clip 4 also lacks an analog input, which is indispensable when needed in a pinch. The XB13 has a strap and two mounting options to choose from, making it more flexible. Both speakers are simple to use, but the XB13 wins in terms of ease of use.

Pros:

  • JBL Clip 4 delivers surprisingly big audio and punchy bass from its small size, thanks to the rich JBL original pro sound that it offers.
  • With an ultra-portable design and integrated carabiner, JBL Clip 4 allows you to take your music anywhere and everywhere. Simply clip it onto your belt, strap, or buckle and explore the world.
  • JBL Clip 4 has a 10-hour playtime, which means you won’t have to worry about charging your battery frequently and can enjoy uninterrupted music.

Cons:

  • The power and pairing buttons of JBL Clip 4 are easier to press accidentally than the recessed buttons on the side of JBL Clip 3, which can be a minor issue if it’s hanging on a backpack or something.
  • JBL Clip 4 does not have an audio jack, which can be an inconvenience for those who prefer wired connections.
  • The carabiner clip of JBL Clip 4 may not feel as sturdy as that of JBL Clip 3, which could be a concern for some users.
