The British Open, one of golf’s Majors, is set to tee off this weekend at Royal Birkdale in England. In remembering the greatest moments the tournament has give us, most of us travel back to an afternoon in the late 90s when a teenager from England (by way of South Africa) charmed us all with one of the best shots we’ve ever seen.
Justin Rose was that teenager.
Now in his thirties, Rose is one of the world’s best golfers and is returning to the British Open to try and further leave his mark on the tournament. That first mark, 19 years ago, remains one of the best moments in recent golf memory.
So of course it has been re-created with Lego, thanks to the always brilliant GoldYeller on Instagram.
Here’s actual footage of the classic British Open moment:
In its own right, the moment is amazing. But add in Lego to the mix and all of a sudden we’re transported to a whole different world of amazing.
Who knew that 19 years after watching him make — and brilliantly react to — a phenomenal shot we’d be on the edge of our seats as he participated in a playoffs with Sergio Garcia at The Masters.
Rose didn’t win at Augusta this year, but he did turn in a classic Masters moment. It only adds to the enjoyment of his British Open moment as he weaves his name firmly into the fabric of golf history.
For those interested in GoldYeller’s work — which you should be — here’s a cool behind the scenes video he has for this video:
Say what you will about them, but every sports moment is better with Lego.
