Lego is retiring Star Wars Rogue One sets before 2018

Lego is rolling out a ton of new Star Wars sets, but that means some of the old ones are getting retired.

Force Friday II is right around the corner, and with it will come a barrage of new Star Wars merch to hype us up for The Last Jedi. We don’t really need to be hyped up for the next film in the Star Wars saga, but if there has been one thing synonymous with the franchise it’s merchandising.

Lego has a strong foothold in the world of Star Wars. It’s something that helped revive interest in both back in the late 2000s and it is a partnership paying off big time now. But with every new set that comes out, one has to get pushed aside. In this instance, there is an entire line of Lego sets getting pushed back to make room for The Last Jedi and beyond.

If you haven’t collected all of the Rogue One sets you want, now is a good time to start. LEGO designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer noted that the sets for the first Star Wars standalone film are getting discontinued.

Here’s what he said about the discontinuation of the Rogue One sets:

Make sure you are not missing out on sets that have already been made, as the first wave of Rogue One is going to retire with the end of 2017 – including my TIE Striker and Krennic’s shuttle, to be replaced by SOMETHING BIG and SOMETHING EVEN MUCH, MUCH BIGGER 

The sets are still going to hang around until they’re out of stock, but once they’re gone that’s it. One thing this might help is the collectability of the sets after their shelf life runs out. There are some really cool Rogue One sets out there, but not everyone is going to get their hands on them.
