Nothing says Star Wars quite like the Millennium Falcon. If you’re searching for the perfect way to engage with your favorite franchise, this LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Millennium Falcon Building Kit is it. It’s an impressive and challenging set that’ll engage Star Wars fans and expert builders alike. With 7,541 pieces, this set is the largest (and most detailed) LEGO Millennium Falcon to date, including two whole crews of minifigures. Coming from a family of Star Wars fans, this LEGO set is basically my dream come true. Let’s dive further into the details of this set and find out whether or not it’ll make your nerdy dreams come true, too.

A LEGO Star Wars Masterpiece

Unlike other LEGO Star Wars sets, this one is geared towards adult fans of the franchise, ideally those who already have some experience. This is because it provides a relatively challenging building experience. However, never assume that “challenging” is synonymous with “not worth it.” This LEGO Millennium Falcon building set, aside from being a rewarding experience, results in a collectible that can be displayed with pride. It includes four classic crew minifigures: Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, and C-3PO. They’re included along with three Star Wars Episode VII/VIII crew minifigures: Older Han Solo, Rey, and Finn. So, you don’t have to just let it collect dust on your shelf — these minifigures make it perfect for recreating scenes from the movies.

Hours of Fun and Challenge

Be prepared to spend a lot of time building this masterpiece. It may take you several days to complete the build, depending on your building experience and speed. The building process is fantastic for the frame and then intermittently throughout from that point on. The instructions are incredibly detailed, but it can be easy to miss a step, especially since the numbered bags are thrown into the four large boxes willy-nilly. If you messed up something in the frame, you may not realize it until hours later when you connect the outer parts to that frame. The diagrams in the instruction manual can be obtuse at times, so it sometimes takes trial and error, along with glancing at the instructions repeatedly for 10 minutes to finally fit the pieces in place.

The Final Construction

Even though this LEGO Millennium Falcon set is super cool, it definitely has its downsides. One of the biggest issues is the flimsiness of the final construction. While the frame is solid and parts of it, like the cockpit and the front “prongs,” stay together pretty well, there are many sections, both of the underside and especially the top, that are essentially resting on the frame and are not really held in place by anything other than gravity. Even moving it in the way shown in the book, you are almost guaranteed to knock pieces off or shift their position. There’s really no feasible way to attach them without screwing up other parts. At least it’s accurate to the films, with all the random stuff falling off. It does look very cool and detailed when finished — so long as you don’t touch it too much.

Tips for Building the LEGO Millennium Falcon

Here’s a few tips to help you make the most of your experience. First, make sure you have a large area to build on. A larger coffee table works well, so long as there’s couches nearby to put your unopened bags on. Second, get some trays to put the pieces into for each step. This will speed up the process by allowing you to organize the pieces better (and makes sure that you won’t lose any). Third, look ahead a few steps in the instructions each time you are starting a new piece/section. Fourth, take lots of pictures throughout the build to reference later if you need to put something back. Fifth, if you are going to get a stand or case, know that all of them require you to remove most of the landing pads, if not all of them. We know, we know, it kind of sucks, but it definitely helps with the foot print in the end if you are going to display it.

Collectible or Playable?

The LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Millennium Falcon set is made to be both a collectible and a playable toy. The main hold features a seating area, Dejarik holographic game, combat remote training helmet, and engineering station with turning minifigure seat, while the rear compartment features the engine room with hyperdrive and console, and two escape pod hatches. The exterior features detailed removable hull panels, a lowering boarding ramp, a concealed blaster cannon, a four-minifigure cockpit with detachable canopy, and interchangeable round/rectangular sensor dishes. Builders can slide the panel to reveal the concealed blaster cannon and turn classic Leia’s and Han’s head to reveal their breathing mask decorations. These features can definitely make the set fun to play with, though its overall fragility does detract from its overall playability.

Final Verdict

The LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Millennium Falcon set is perfect for adult fans of the franchise. While the final construction can be a bit flimsy, and the building process can be time-consuming and even frustrating at times, the end result is worth it. This set is perfect for those who love a complicated build and want a stunning and detailed replica that they can display in their home or office. It’s practically designed to impress. Overall, we highly recommend this set for any Star Wars fan who loves LEGO.
