Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving has developed into one of the most exciting players in the NBA at just 24 years old. However, before Kyrie was an NBA superstar, he was just a freshman playing for the Duke Blue Devils.
Irving’s rise to stardom has been helped, at least in some part, by his deal with Nike. After two editions of his sneaker had already dropped, Nike has now been promoting the Kyrie 3, which will have a special edition sneaker coming out in honor of March Madness.
On Monday, Nike unveiled the Kyrie 3 “Duke”, a new Blue Devils-themed sneaker. The sneakers are scheduled to drop on March 10th, and Nike provided fans with a message from the Cavaliers point guard in their press release.
“My time at Duke taught me discipline and cohesion of a championship-level program,” Irving said. “I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything, it was a great road for me to take before landing in Cleveland.”
Complex Sports provided some photos of the new sneakers on Twitter.
Even if you’re not a Duke fan, you have to admit that this was a pretty cool idea from Nike and the people working with Kyrie on his line of shoes. The sharp blue and the recognizable Duke letters are featured prominently on the sneaker, making this an appealing sneaker for any current or former Duke student or fan.
Hopefully this isn’t the only March Madness-themed sneaker that Nike drops before the NCAA Tournament begins.
