Schools are starting to ban fidget spinners because learning can’t be fun

Fidget spinners are all the rage, specifically with elementary school kids, but they’re being banned because learning needs to be boring.

If you’re a parent, or know a parent with kids in school, chances are you’ve heard about fidget spinners by now. If you haven’t heard of them yet, it’s not overly complicated. Fidget spinners are exactly what they sound like — little metal gears that spin in your fingers to either help with anxiety or focus a wandering mind.

Of course, being that they’re easy to use and look cool they’re a hit with young kids. Naturally they’re slowly being phased out and banned at schools.

Saint James Catholic School in Connecticut has already banned Fidget Spinners on campus:

Several students have been bringing “Fidget Spinners” to school during the past week.  Saint James School does not allow these items during school time.  Fidget Spinners that are out of a child’s backpack while on school grounds will be confiscated and returned to the parents at afternoon pickup.  An announcement was made at school today regarding this so all students should be aware.

The list of schools saying ‘thanks but no thanks’ to the fidget spinners is only going to grow. It’s unfortunate, as the spinners actually serve a practical purpose — one that is albeit easy for elementary school kids to abuse.

While it’s a toy, the spinners have been proven to help focus kids with ADHD, a disorder that a growing number of children have been diagnosed with over the years. It’s a toy that makes sense as a tool – -but learning absolutely positively cannot be fun so the fidget spinners must be outlawed.

It’s a cut off the nose to spite the face situation. But no one said the education system wasn’t broken.
