After a controversial decision to photoshop young girls in bikinis in 2014, the Chicago Tribune reports, Target is now trying a different approach.
All bikini models seem to be flawless – yet they’re heavily edited, giving girls and women unrealistic expectations. With this new campaign, Target is leaving bodies unedited, and showing them off just the way they really look.
With pressures for girls to look a specific way higher than ever, it’s nice to see a big corporation taking a stand against it.
It’s amazing to see women of all shapes and sizes feeling confident with their bodies, and showing their confidence off to others. Once these young women have good role models, they will begin to feel like they are perfect the way they were born.
In a statement, Target explains their decision to start the #TargetSwim campaign:
Because finding your favorite style suit is important, and we’re all about offering flattering fit and cut options to help guests feel confident in their swimsuits. After all, you look your best when you feel your best!
For the swimwear campaign, Target has partnered with four different women to help promote their body-positive motto.
Target has teamed up with four models to promote their new line of swimwear, while at the same time, promoting their positive body image campaign. The women include, Denise Bidot, Kamie Crawford, Megan Batoon and Lizzie Armanto (below).
Hopefully these four women banding together will create a more inclusive and understanding mindset of what a real body looks like.
