Michael Jordan is by far the most recognizable alumni to come out of the North Carolina Tar Heels athletic program. Because of this, it only makes since that North Carolina’s football team would adopt Jordan Brand apparel.
At halftime of Saturday’s UNC game against the Duke Blue Devils in basketball, Michael Jordan came out to talk about the announcement that the Tar Heels football team would be wearing Jordan Brand uniforms next season.
The Tar Heels are the second FBS football program to wear Jordan Brand apparel after the Michigan Wolverines adopted the brand prior to this past college football season.
Considering this was the first time Jordan appeared at a Tar Heels basketball game at the Dean Smith Center since 2010, it shows just how important the moment was for the athletic program. It’s still a little weird to think about the Jumpman logo on a football uniform, but Jim Harbaugh showed the world that it’s ok to rock Jordan Brand on the football field.
Tar Heels football head coach Larry Fedora was even seen rocking a Jumpman North Carolina polo recently while hanging out with MJ.
There are still plenty of athletic programs across the country that are sponsored by Nike, Adidas and Under Armour, but the Jordan Brand is now trying to find its own foothold in the market. North Carolina is only the second football program to adopt Jordan Brand, but expect to see some more schools to hop on in the coming years.
