Nothing can replace a quality boombox. With its JBL Original Pro sound and monstrous bass, this speaker is perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. I recently purchased the JBL Boombox 2 for a weekend getaway with friends, and I was absolutely blown away by its performance. Seriously, you couldn’t get a better boombox. Want to figure out if this is for you? Our product review will dive into the details.
The JBL Boombox 2 delivers powerful sound and monstrous bass. With a speaker like this, your house will be transformed into a club. With dual 20mm tweeters and 24-inch subwoofers, this speaker is able to produce a frequency response range of 50Hz to 20kHz. It also has a well-balanced midrange response and crisp treble, so vocals and lead instruments ring through clearly and they are not overpowered by the bass.
The JBL Boombox 2 is also well-suited for a variety of audio content. It delivers decent frequency response accuracy and has a reasonably neutral sound profile with emphasis on the low-end frequencies to deliver warm and powerful bass. Although it doesn’t get sub-bass levels and the soundstage is relatively narrow, it still puts out a lot of volume for its size.
With its grip handle, the JBL Boombox 2 is easy to transport. However, “portability” means nothing without a light weight. Thankfully, this portable speaker is relatively lightweight, at 13 pounds. The built-in plastic handle feels sturdy, too. It’s designed to sit horizontally with a plastic base and comes in four different color variants. The drivers are also wrapped in tight fabric that protects against any dust and adds some durability, making it an ideal speaker for outdoor activities.
Although it’s submersible for up to 30 minutes and can float, it’s a little top-heavy and tends to tilt downwards. The buttons are located on the top of the speaker and have a textured feel so you can find them easily. The layout is easy to navigate, and you get a multifunction power button that also enables Bluetooth pairing, a party boost button that connects you to other compatible speakers, volume up and down controls, and the play/pause button that lets you skip tracks when double-tapped.
Packed with an incredible 24 hours of battery life, the JBL Boombox 2 is ready for all-day use. The fun doesn’t have to stop! You can party all day and into the night with a long-lasting speaker like this. Even though battery life performance largely depends on your volume levels and usage, regardless of the device, it remains solid. Although the 6.5-hour charge time is a little bit longer than other portable speakers, it makes up for this by having a built-in power bank. This allows you to charge other devices and play audio simultaneously. The JBL Boombox 2 also has a new Bluetooth transmitter. This is a huge improvement over its predecessor, delivering Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. The connection is stable with no interference and stays reliable, which is perfect for larger gatherings.
The JBL Boombox 2 lets you wirelessly stream music from your phone, tablet, or any other Bluetooth-enabled device. It’s the most convenient speaker I’ve ever had. Plus, this feature is super easy to use. The Bluetooth range is excellent and has a low latency, meaning that the data rapidly travels from your phone to the speaker. You won’t have to wait long for your music to play, or when watching videos. The JBL Boombox 2 also has multipoint pairing ability, so it can connect to multiple devices at once — you won’t have to disconnect it from your phone for it to connect with your laptop.
Overall, I highly recommend the JBL Boombox 2 for anyone in need of a powerful, portable Bluetooth speaker. The sound quality was top-notch, delivering clear audio and deep bass even at high volumes. While it may be a bit pricey, I think that the quality and features make it worth the investment. Whether you’re hosting a party at home or taking it on an outdoor adventure, this speaker is sure to impress.
Question: Can this speaker be connected to a computer via an aux cable?
Answer: Yes, the JBL Boombox 2 can be connected to a computer via a 3.5mm Aux cable. The Aux-In port is located on the back of the speaker, underneath the back flap.
Question: What is the difference between this JBL Boombox 2 and the other JBL boombox, besides the price?
Answer: The JBL Boombox 2 is more powerful and has a sleeker design, and it uses PartyBoost for speaker pairing instead of JBL Connect +. If you own previous JBL products that use Connect + and you think you would utilize that, it may be worth considering. However, if this is your first portable speaker, it is worth investing in the newer products.
Question: How does the JBL Boombox 2 handle playa dust for Burning Man?
Answer: One user took it to the beach and it performed very well. They recommend buying a second one and pairing them for stereo effect.
