Golf superstar Rory McIlroy and the apparel giant Nike have agreed to a massive 10-year contract extension to help with Nike’s evolving golf brand.
Nike continues to be far and away the largest apparel brand in the world. Despite making some major changes to its golf division, the apparel giant has decided to continue working with some of the biggest golfers in the world, including Rory McIlroy.
On Sunday, Bob Harig from ESPN.com reported that Nike and McIlroy had agreed to a massive 10-year contract extension. Rory has been the face of Nike’s golf division for the past few years, and that’ll continue to be the case with this new deal.
“I’ve loved this company since I was a kid,” McIlroy said in the statement. “I’m really happy to continue this journey with Nike.”
The future of Nike’s golf division was cloudy last summer when the company announced that it would no longer be producing golf clubs and balls. However, the company still seems committed to golf apparel, which makes Rory’s presence on Nike’s roster of athletes so important.

McIlroy isn’t the only golfer to get a new contract with Nike this offseason. The apparel company also signed Jason Day and Thomas Pieters to continue working on adding a roster of golfers to promote its products.
Despite no longer making golf clubs, Nike seems committed to delivering quality products to golfers, just in a different way than it used it. Having McIlroy promote their products will make it that much easier.
