No, your iPhone 5C isn’t about to be obsolete

Despite what you may have heard, Apple is not updating its iOS to make the iPhone 5C and 5S obsolete  — they’re that way on their own.

With each update of Apple’s iOS, it seems we get closer and closer to the end of life cycle for some phones in the current generation. It’s inevitable, as technology crafted even two years ago is simply too slow to keep up with where things are at right now.

Specifically, the oldest model phones that appear to be A) still popular and B) still quick enough to run the current software, are the iPhone 5C and 5S. Many Apple users have moved on to the 6th and 7th generation of phones but some still have these older models and most are wondering when the bell will toll.

According to Forbes and reiterated by Mac Observer, the latest iOS update is not going to force the iPhone 5C out of the current generation family. That being said, it’s not hard to make a phone like the 5C obsolete.

While it’s easy (maybe just for me) to troll the 5C, the fears that users have of it being pushed out are legitimate. This is what Apple does, it takes phones and just makes it so you can’t use them anymore. It’s an easy play to force people to upgrade but it’s also necessary. The tech running on the current iOS far exceeds where things were a few years ago, meaning the 5C is eventually going to get forced out by default.

That time isn’t upon us yet, but it’s coming. There are rumors of an iPhone 8 coming in 2018 wit revamped, first-class features. Those will far exceed what the 5C is capable of doing, but for now it appears users of the older model of phones can rest easy knowing they haven’t been phased out yet.
