Adidas is offering NFL Combine attendees the chance to own an island if they can break a long standing 40-yard dash record .
While the NFL Combine isn’t something that everyone can get into, it’s certainly something we’ve all heard of. If you’ve heard only one thing about this event, where NFL prospects gather to show off their athleticism to scouts, it might involve the 40-yard dash.
It’s the most popular of the events at the combine and it’s one that year in and year out is watched to see if a record will fall. Back in 2008, future Tennessee Titans draft pick Chris Johnson set a new record for running the fastest 40-yard dash in the history of the combine, doing so in 4.2 seconds.
Watching him do it, he barely looks like he’s even trying:

According to ESPN, whoever breaks Johnson’s 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine is going to be receiving an island. No, seriously — Adidas is offering an entire island to anyone who can beat the long standing record.
There seems to be a massive catch, though. While Adidas is offering a legit small island to anyone who breaks the record, they won’t be paying for taxes on it. That’s going to add up fast.
The fine print says that Adidas agrees to provide a winner with an island “as soon as reasonably possible,” but that the company can also just pay the athlete $1 million instead. The company is not responsible for the payment of any taxes on the prize.
While an island isn’t the sole motivation for prospects to break Johnson’s record, the idea of it turning into a long-term investment might actually persuade people away from it. Having an island is cool — paying property tax on that bad boy is no bueno.
Who knows, maybe this is the year NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen finally hikes up his dress pants and gives us the performance of a lifetime.
