Apple is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, but there’s a chance a phone won’t be ready for launch in September.
Each year in the fall, Apple dominates the marketplace with the reveal and release of its latest iPhone model. This has been a thing since the first model was launched by Steve Jobs back in 2007, a ceremonious event that ushered in a new era — the smartphone.
This year will mark the tenth anniversary of that launch, and as a result people are expecting the best iPhone we’ve seen to date. Of course, the fact that recent launches have been pretty mild lends to the theory that Apple is going to step up its game this time around, but the added pressure of the tenth anniversary is going to have Apple users hungry for something special.
While they hype is real for the next generation of iPhone, we might have to wait for it longer than other models.
According to Business Insider, there’s a decent chance that the iPhone 8 won’t be available for release in September.
Multiple supply chain watchers in recent weeks have said they believe production on the “OLED iPhone” will not start until September, which suggests the high-end iPhone “8” may not go on sale in September, as has been the case for years.
Waiting for an iPhone is nothing new. Save for a few anomalies in the past, there is usually a backup on the market of iPhones which causes shipping delays upwards of a few months. Anyone trying to get the Jet Black iPhone found themselves having to wait a a minimum of a few weeks for the phone to ship, which was in addition to how long it would take for the item to ten be in transit.
But at least in this case the phones were already manufactured and were ready to ship. It sounds like if the next iPhone is going to be as exciting as we’re hoping, then it will have to be worth the wait.
