The soon-to-be-released Fitbit Alta HR is said to come with very precise sleep-tracking abilities. This technology will also be available to other watches through an update.
Fitbits have always had the ability to track your sleep, but now Fitbit says they are making the tracking even more precise. According to the FitBit website, they are introducing two new features to their sleep tracking in their new smart watches.
The new features that will be introduced with the Alta HR are, Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights. Sleep Stages uses the updated heart rate monitor to track your stages of sleep through your heart rate. Your sleep is tracked, and then graphed so you can see a visual representation of how you slept in any given night.
The second new sleep feature is the Sleep Insights. This new technology takes the tracking from the first feature we talked about, and compares it to a database of other people who are using the technology. As Fitbit describes it on their website:
With one of the world’s largest sleep databases, Fitbit can help you learn more about your sleep stats and how your trends compare to those of the same age and gender. Plus, see relevant tips for improving your sleep quality and your nightly routine.
Their newly (and soon to be) released trackers all have their new heart rate monitoring technology. The Alta HR is the only watch to have the new sleep tracking abilities at its release. According to Fast Company once the Alta HR is released, the other watches with the updated heart monitoring (Blaze and Charge 2) will update to give access to the new sleep technology as well.
The Alta HR isn’t available to purchase yet, but is available to pre-order on the FitBit website. They say approximately four to five weeks for delivery for this new release. Pinpointing the exact release date has been difficult, but Fitbit should update once the tracker is available for purchase.
