We’re gonna let you finish Riley, but Will did the Lego art thing first

A kid named Riley went viral for posting ironic Lego art this weekend, but he wasn’t the first kid to do it this year.

If you were on the internet this weekend, you likely saw the story of Riley.

Riley is a 12-year old kid who, either knowingly or adorably, tried to pass along a Lego brick as a worm. A Finnish reporter snapped a pic, tweeted it out and all of a sudden Riley’s world started spinning faster and faster.

As cute and funny as Riley’s creation was, he wasn’t an OG — to use a technical term. It was just a case of the right place at the right time that this creation went viral because someone else had tested those waters weeks ago.

Let’s give credit where credit is due — to Will in Dallas.

You’ll remember that someone on Reddit (perhaps this Lego art dealer posing as a Finnish reporter) posted a picture of Will’s creation. It was simply called “Brick” and was exactly what is sounds like.

Unfortunately for Will, his Lego art was posted about on a work day, when we have other stupid internet things to worry about. Riley hit gold by having the post about their Lego art go viral on the weekend.

Essentially, Will is The Replacements an Riley is Nirvana.

The Replacements were a 1980s punk band from Minnesota who should have been the biggest band in the world. Anything you listen to post-1984 as far as grunge or punk-pop is concerned is dripping with influence from ‘The Mats’. Yet they never made it big, despite playing a style of music that would later go on to change the face of the industry in the early 90s.

Paul Westerberg — the lead singer — is a dead ringer for Kurt Cobain’s vocal styling.

Anyways, Will did this whole cute ironic Lego art thing first and he deserves as much credit as Riley does.

Either way, the office trolling that will be happening at the hands of Riley and Will in 15 years time is going to be as next level as it gets.
