Getting things in two days with Amazon Prime is normal for a lot of Americans, but now those in Mexico have the same service.
After only two years of regular Amazon services, Mexicans can now upgrade to the Amazon Prime services, TechCrunch reports. This includes access to shows and movies, as well as free one or two-day shipping depending on where you live in the country.
According to TechCrunch, this is the first Latin American country to have access to Prime. Hopefully with success in Mexico, Prime will expand to cover more Latin American countries.
The service is going to be relatively less expense than the American Prime. According to CNET the first year will be cheaper than the subsequent years:
The price of the service is 899 pesos (about $46) a year, but for the next six months Amazon will be offering a promotional rate of 449 pesos for the first year of membership.
The online market is growing rapidly in Mexico, with Walmart also investing in their stores south of the border. According to Fox News, this means expanding distribution centers, which will create more jobs.
Now Amazon will be competing with Netflix in the streaming portion of their Prime launch in Mexico. Perhaps being able to use the subscription for fast and free shipping as well as video streaming, people will consider making the switch to Amazon Prime.
As Amazon continues to expand to more and more countries around the world, they are making other retailers take a more technology friendly approach to retail. They seem to be paving the way for the future of shopping.
