After rumors that the iPhone 8 from Apple may be switching charging cables, a new report is apparently refuting that claim.
There have been plenty of rumors swirling around regarding the iPhone 8 and whether or not the newest model of Apple’s smartphone will require a new charging cable. Now, a new report is suggesting that this won’t be the case.
On Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that the iPhone 8 would likely be ditching the lightning charging port and replacing it with a USB-C port, which is considered the industry standard.
However, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, all of Apple’s iPhone products in 2017 will continue to use the lightning port according to Neil Hughes from AppleInsider.
Along with continuing to use the lightning port, the new iPhones are reportedly expect to utilize “Type-C Power Delivery”, according to Kuo, which will supposedly help with faster charging. That is something that most iPhone owners can definitely get behind, as one of the bigger complaints for iPhones year in and year out is battery life.
There isn’t a confirmed date for when the iPhone 8 would be revealed, but many are expecting the newest iPhone to be unveiled in September to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first ever iPhone being released.
Along with continuing to use the lightning port, Kuo predicted earlier this month that Apple would begin to work on wireless charging technology, according to CNBC.com. There is obviously a lot of time between now and September, but Kuo will likely have some more reports in the coming months regarding the next generation of iPhones.
