Apple is expanding the color options for the iPhone 7, and it’s thanks to the company supporting a special cause.
If you haven’t already picked up an iPhone 7, your decision just got a little harder. With an array of four color options already existing, Apple is tacking on a fifth — a rare red iPhone. Up until now the closest to a red iPhone we’ve gotten is the rose gold option, but this phone is going to be all out red, and for a great cause.
Apple has partnered with (RED) for the release of this phone, a charity that benefits the fight against across the globe. These are the people who throw concerts and organize special events to promote the awareness of AIDS and the help to end the crisis everywhere.
“The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT)RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Anyone wanting to get their hands on a red iPhone is going to be able to do so starting on March 24. The color option is available in all of the currently available models of the iPhone 7 and carries no extra features other than its unique color and the fact that having one shows that you support the (RED) cause.
While this is vastly different than any iPhone that we’ve seen before, don’t think that this then opens the door for more colorful designs. While the iPhone C models came in florescent colors, the main line of phones have traditionally been available in only four colors. That likely isn’t going to change, but it’s nice to know that Apple is willing to get on board with a cause to such a great degree that it creates an entirely new line of phone for the occasion .
