Getting to choose different endings for your favorite show on Netflix could soon be more than just a fantasy. According to reports, this interactive technology is in the works.
Ever been so angry at the ending to a show that you pledge to boycott it forever? Well soon you could decide the ending of some shows on Netflix. According to the Daily Mail this technology is in the works.
Users would be able to use their remotes to select which ending they would like to see for that particular show. That being said, it may not only be the endings that can be toyed with, other portions of the show could be decided by the viewer. The selections that you make could change the outcome of the story all together.
Of course with different options, this means that not just one plot-line needs to be filmed. Actors will have to film different scenes for each of the different options, and depending on where the option lies, more alternate scenes will have to filmed.
The Daily Mail reports their findings from a ‘source’ but don’t reveal who the source is. According to their reports, Netflix already has a plan for trying this new technology out:
Netflix will run a trial with choose-your-own-adventure shows for children later this year, based on an established character.
Of course this may take years to actually be implemented into our daily Netflix routine, but the prospect of this is very intriguing. In theory, you could watch the same show two or three different times, and have a different experience each time.
A technology like this would really change the viewer experience. Being able to deicide the fate of your favorite (or least favorite) characters is a lot of power to have. We will have to wait and see how this technology changes the Netflix experience.
