Why is Lego hiding Luke Skywalker in Last Jedi sets?

Luke Skywalker looms large over the upcoming ‘The Last Jedi’ release, but why haven’t we seen his Lego yet?

In roughly three months, we’re going to finally get to see what The Last Jedi is all about. The hype for the film is nearing its peak, as the marketing is picking up and tie-ins are already flying off shelves.

Lego is at the forefront of the marketing, showing off new vehicles and giving us our first look at characters like Snoke and the new Kylo Ren. But one character we haven’t seen at all is perhaps the most important to the new film: Luke Skywalker.

Just about everywhere else, Luke is a key cog in the marketing blitz. From magazine covers to interviews and trailer clips, it appears that Luke is going to be very central toThe Last Jedi story. That’s what makes it so curious that we haven’t seen a single Lego set that involves him.

Every other toy or merch release has featured Luke front and center, yet it’s been crickets from the folks at Lego. It’s baffling; why is this?

The most logical reason is that it’s too spoiler-y. While we knew that there would be a tipping of the hand when it came to story details being revealed through the release of merchandise, Lucasfilm isn’t going to just hand over the keys to the story vault because it’s looking to make Disney a buck or two. Whether they release the Luke Legos now or later, we’re going to buy them so there’s no harm in waiting.

In fact, it might be a better strategy to wait. Look at how much we’re talking about lusting after Luke Lego sets because none have been released so far.

Another possibility is that there simply aren’t any Lego sets that are based on Luke. He’s on Ach-Too, which would make a cool architectural set but that’s about it. It’s not like he has a signature ship in the movie like he did in the original trilogy. It’s possible that there aren’t enough extra things with Luke that it will warrant more than standalone figures and toys.

We’ll keep our ears to the ground to see if we’ll get any Luke related Lego sets moving forward.
