Lego might have helped us figure out what Supreme Leader Snoke’s deal is

The Star Wars Lego leaks aren’t so much revealing spoilers as they are fueling new fan theories — of which I have one.

What is Supreme Leader Snoke’s deal is a question I’ve asked myself a few times. More than a few. Most Star Wars fans have the same question, albeit to varying degrees. The common thread seems to be figuring our his identity, but I’ll stop short of trying to do that — why ruin the fun?

Instead let’s get to the crux of the real issue: What is Supreme Leader Snoke’s deal? As in, how come he looks different in The Last Jedi versus The Force Awakens.

If you’re unsure of the situation, let’s recap quick. In The Force Awakens, we met a hologram of Snoke which appeared to show him all beat up and scarred. The Lego sets leaked — and essentially confirmed — for The Last Jedi reveal that Snoke looks much more like a human being than a dented up alien.

Here’s Snoke (suppoesdly) in The Last Jedi.

    You’ll notice, they’re different.

People are trying to figure out what this means as far as his identity is concerned. That’s overthinking things. Instead let’s start with why he looks different before he get back to who he is.

The theory is as follows. In Revenge of the Sith — either the novelization or some anecdote to the film — it’s revealed that Chancellor Palpatine is actually Darth Sidious. We knew that. The real revelation is that he’s been around for a long, long time and was basically using The Force to hide his appearance. When Mace Windu redirected his force lightning back at him, it dimmed the effect and revealed his true face.

I might be getting parts of that wrong but it doesn’t matter. The point is, we’re learning new things about The Force that weren’t really played on in the other films. Kylo Ren being able to get read someone’s mind or paralyze them with The Force was brand new. His Neo-esque mid-air freeze of a blaster bolt was brand new.

The idea of changing one’s face with The Force to hide your appearance is brand new — and therefore completely plausible.

That could explain why he looks so different in one film versus the other. It’s a ‘Snoke Theory’ but one that sucks far less than most out there.
