Amazon continues to dominate the online retail marketplace, but like any successful business, the company is continuing to find ways to adapt and grow to ensure that they remainn the market leader.
On Thursday, startup company Cloud9 announced that they had been acquired by Amazon Web Services, although they did not disclose how much they had been acquired for. Cloud9 is a company that specializes in software development tools that allows coders to essentially do all of their work in one convenient location.
The company currently has employees located in both Amsterdam and San Francisco, with one of its most recognizable clients being the online music streaming platform, SoundCloud.
“We’re excited to let you, our users and customers, be among the first to learn that we have been acquired by Amazon!” Cloud9 announced on its blog. “We will be joining the Amazon Web Services family, and we’re looking forward to working together on terrific customer offerings for the future.”
There are few details surrounding the detail between both sides. Not only do we not no how much the deal was worth, we also don’t know whether Amazon is acquiring the company and retaining its staff of less than 50 employees or whether they’re just buying Cloud9 for its software. According to the blog post, however, Cloud9 seems comfortable that it will continue to operate at a high level.
“In the meantime, you’ll still be able to depend on and continue to invest safely in Cloud9,” the post said. “It’s still business as usual—we’ll continue to work with our Ace Open Source community and to provide our innovative services to you and our hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide.”
Amazon wouldn’t comment on the deal, which means that we will have to wait and see what the company plans to do with their latest acquisition.
