Amazon’s S3 web-based storage crashed on Tuesday, leaving websites and apps everywhere with widespread issues.
Websites and apps everywhere experienced some technical difficulties on Tuesday after Amazon Web Services’ S3 web-based storage suffered widespread issues and increased error rates.
A number of well known sites and apps, including the likes of Giphy, Slack and Business Insider, suffered problems throughout the day on Tuesday. According to Darrell Etherington from TechCrunch, Amazon’s S3 is used by almost 150,000 different websites, leading to a significant amount of problems across the globe.
There was plenty of negative reactions to the incident on social media, and Amazon Web Services had failed to fix the widespread issues as of Tuesday afternoon. As the nation’s largest cloud computing company, many businesses depend on S3, and the fact that it’s featuring so many errors for so many people is concerning.
Most websites that use AWS S3 aren’t experiencing complete failure, but different aspects of sites have been affected. Examples include broken links and images or long loading times, especially when it comes to images.
