As one of the biggest online retailers in the world, Amazon is constantly trying to find new ways to cut down on delivery times and costs while improving customer satisfaction. Now, they’re one step closer to changing the way they deliver packages.

Back in 2013, Amazon unveiled Amazon Prime Air, a delivery system with the idea of delivering products in 30 minutes or less through the use of drone technology. There was plenty of excitement at the time, but there have been few updates about the service as of late.

However, that has now changed. According to Michelle Starr from CNET, Amazon has partnered with the United Kingdom government and UK Civil Aviation Authority to rest drones in the country. The plan is to test the drones in rural areas while testing sensors for drones to avoid hazards and whether or not one person can operate multiple drones at the same time.

“The UK is a leader in enabling drone innovation – we’ve been investing in Prime Air research and development here for quite some time,” said Amazon VP of Global Innovation Policy and Communications Paul Misener in a statement. “This announcement strengthens our partnership with the UK and brings Amazon closer to our goal of using drones to safely deliver parcels in 30 minutes to customers in the UK and elsewhere around the world.”

Testing is a big step for Amazon Prime Air, but it sounds like the actual service is a ways away from being ready. Still, once it is, the service could wind up being a revolutionary step for online retail.
