After plenty of friction between cable giant Comcast and the online streaming service Netflix, the two sides have finally called a truce.
The two companies sent out a press release on Tuesday to announce that Comcast customers will finally be able to stream Netflix TV shows and movies off of the X1 platform.
“Comcast and Netflix have reached an agreement to incorporate Netflix into X1, providing seamless access to the great content offered by both companies,” the release said. “We have much work to do before the service will be available to consumers later this year. We’ll provide more details at that time.”
The move will allow Comcast members to stream Netflix shows and movies in addition to the previous titles they were able to watch with Xfinity on Demand. Netflix has previously struck deals wither other cable companies and online services including Dish Network, TiVo, Apple TV and Google Chromecast.
No details were released regarding the financial details of the collaboration. Regardless, the deal will give Netflix access to the widest range of customers its had in any previous deal with a cable company.
Netflix and Comcast have had their differences in the past. Back in 2012, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings complained that Comcast favored its own streaming service to other services by not counting it against the data cap through Comcast’s internet service.
However, it seems that all of the bad blood has at least been set aside with the chance for both companies to mutually benefit from adding Netflix to the X1 platform.
