For those who love to use coupons, especially at Target, you’re going to want to pay attention to their updated policy.
One of the things that Target customers who use coupons are used to is the fact that cashiers can override coupons in the event that they aren’t working for customers to ensure that they can get the deals that they were expecting. However, the way that is handled could be changing.
According to Coupons in the News, Target updated its cash register software on Monday, along with its coupon policy, to ensure that coupons are applied correctly to items. While that should be good news for customers, the new updates won’t allow cashiers to use a register function that would allow the program to automatically accept a coupon that won’t properly scan.
Now, if a coupon doesn’t read properly, cashiers will apparently be asked to match the coupon code to a specific product. If it doesn’t go through, then cashiers will have to give the coupon back to the customer.
One of the biggest things that this new policy and update plans to stop is the occurrence of overages. An overage is essentially a glitch when a coupon is applied to a different product of a similar brand name, and the savings of the coupon are actually more than the product being purchased.
“We want to ensure coupons are easy for our guests to redeem and seamless for our team members to process,” a Target spokesperson told Ashlee Kieler from Consumerist. “This policy is consistent with how we already handle Target-specific coupons.”
The new updates should be rolling out later in July.
