We’ve already suggested that you pair your Lucky Eggs with either Incense or a Lure Module. However, if you really want to rack up the XP, it’s all about evolving your Pokemon. Evolving 1 Pokemon earns you 500 XP. Using your Lucky Egg doubles that to a massive 1000 XP per evolution.
As seen in the above video, most people choose to use Pidgey for multiple evolutions. Evolving Pidgey into Pidgeotto costs just 12 candies, which is relatively cheap. You can also use Weedle and Caterpie for this trick, or any low-level Pokemon.
What you need to do is catch a lot of Pidgey to get enough candies for multiple evolutions. Then, it’s best to check out PidgeyCalc. If you’re going to use Pidgey, just click the red button beside both Weedle and Caterpie’s entries. Enter how many of the Pokemon you have, and how many candies you have. Then, click “Calculate!”
The calculator will then spit out how much XP you’ll earn, how many Pokemon you should turn in before using the Lucky Egg, and whether or not you should catch more Pokemon first.
For example, if I have 50 Pidgey and 600 Candies, I would get 50000 XP. However, the calculator notes that it would only take 22.5 minutes, not the entire 30. To maximize the Lucky Egg use, it recommends that I be able to perform 17 more evolutions.
That’s right: ideally, you need to have around 60-65 Pidgey/Caterpie/Weedle ready for evolving before you use a Lucky Egg and the evolution.
