As per usual, Eevee plays by its own set of rules when it comes to evolution. This Pokemon can evolve into one of eight separate species as of Pokemon X and Y. Players of Pokemon GO, however, need only concern themselves with three: Jolteon (Electric-type), Flareon (Fire-type), and Vaporeon (Water-type). While some initially speculated that an Eevee’s second move determined which Pokemon it would evolve into, it’s now believed to be random.
However, there is an exception to this rule. Serebii.net reports on its Eevee page for Pokemon GO that you can control your first Eevee evolution.
If you name your Eevee Sparky and then evolve it, you’ll get a Jolteon. The name Pyro, meanwhile, causes Eevee to become Flareon. Finally, naming an Eevee Rainer will get you a Vaporeon. It’s most important to note that this only works once.
According to The Silph Road‘s rankings, Vaporeon has the best combined stats of the three, with its best stat being its Defense, closely followed by its Attack. As a result, it’s probably best to use the naming trick to get one, then let the chips fall where they may for other Eeveelutions.
Each Eevee costs 25 Eevee Candies to evolve. Eevee can be caught in the wild, and you can also hatch them from 10 km Eggs.
