Kevin Durant took over the headlines this week when he announced that he would sign with the Golden State Warriors. However, the former NBA MVP is also in the news for a completely different reason.
In an interview with Nick DePaula from NiceKicks.com, the topic of the price of KD’s line of Nike shoes was brought up. After all, prices on his sneakers have gone from $88 for the KD2 all the way up to $150 for the KD9. Durant’s response to the increased prices was refreshingly candid, even if some might not agree with what he had to say.
“As humbly as I can say it, I’m not a $88 player. I’m an elite player in the league,” Durant told DePaula. “I wanted everything to be affordable, but I knew we had to sacrifice some stuff. I just wanted the fans of the brand and of the shoe to just stay patient with me. And stay patient with who I am as a player, and the level I was trying to go to.”
In all fairness, the KD line of sneakers has all of the bells and whistles as far as Nike shoes go. The KD9 features all kinds of innovations, including the use of Flyknit construction and a Zoom Air unit.
“On these shoes, you get it all, and for a nice price,” Durant added. “You get the newest innovation, you get the newest Zoom bag, and you get my story along with it. If you’re a fan of what I do in the game of basketball, this is perfect for you.”
For all of those sneaker heads out there, the KD9 might be the next shoe for you.
