Comedian Dave Chappelle is coming to Netflix twice this year, but when will his specials be hitting the streaming service?
Netflix announced last year that Dave Chappelle would be making his return to standup comedy, and the streaming service would be providing a window for the world. We now know when to expect those specials, as the release dates have formally been announced.
Both of Chappelle’s standup specials will be hitting Netflix on March 21, so plan that weekend accordingly.
The deal to bring Chappelle to Netflix is one that once again reinforced the idea that the streaming service is the new king of comedy specials. What HBO once was in the 80s and 90s, Netflix seems to have taken that over.
“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy — searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential,” Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP, original documentary and comedy, said, via THR. “Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix.”
You can check out a trailer to the specials below:
This marks the climax of Chappelle’s comeback, which started when he hosted Saturday Night Live back in November. It remains one of the best episodes we’ve seen in a very long time and it came just days after Donald Trump had bee elected President.
It was right around this time, and the rave reviews of his SNL appearance, that Netflix announced Chappelle’s specials.
Now that we know the dates, it’s time to buckle up and get ready for what should surely be the next great comedy special to hit Netflix this year.
