A terminally ill father is trying to get enough votes so that the Lego prototype he is working on with his son can be his legacy.

Damien MacRae, a 42-year old lawyer and father from Australia, was recently diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. While he may succumb to cancer in his brain that started as melanoma on his ear, he is trying to craft a Lego legacy that will live on after him and will honor his relationship with his young son.

Along with his son Aiden, Damien ha been crafting a Lego prototype kit called ‘Safe Sun Beach’ that raises awareness for skin cancer and prevention. It’s an idea that we can all help with, as the father-son duo need 10,000 votes for Lego to consider the set.

You can give the votes to Damien and Aiden here. As of writing this, the duo had already logged over 7,000 votes with 599 days left to go. It’s safe to say, they’re going to get there and this will be a Lego set we all go out and get.

It’s more than just being about a father and son getting their Lego set created, it’s about what Lego can represent. Damien is going to be forced out of his battle with brain cancer when it eventually takes his life. Aiden is going to lose his father when that happens, but as is the case when we lose someone close to us the memories will never fade. This Lego set will do more than raise awareness for skin cancer, it will be a connection that Aiden share with his father long after they’re both gone. This is something to be passed down from father to son for generations, and that’s a legacy that begins with Damien.

To be a part of helping that happen is a powerful thing, especially considering all you need to do is give them a vote. That’s the power of Lego, it can bring us together across the globe for a cause we can all identify with.
