This is the second 2013 rivalry specific uniform on this list. Nike designed special jerseys for each rivalry among the schools they sponsor. The Texas Longhorns already had a nearly perfect jersey. Its classic look and color scheme is one of the most recognizable in all of college football. However, the Longhorns got an even better uniform for the Red River Rivalry.
The special addition featured two gold emblems. On the right side, there was a logo commemorating the rivalry. A golden swoosh mark adorned the left side. In the middle, there was a Longhorns neck patch. The numbers got an extra touch of gold with an outline, making the numbers pop. Combined with the already sleek, yet classy look of the burnt orange and white stripes, this is one heck of an attractive look.
On the helmet, players got their numbers on the top. The usual Longhorns logo on the side was smaller than usual. I’m not a huge fan of this, but it sets the uniform apart as special and unique. The pants are white and feature a Longhorns logo on the right side and a swoosh mark on the left side.
Usually, Texas sticks to its guns regarding its uniforms. Its uniforms have seen minimal and subtle changes throughout history. However, in 2013, the Longhorns uniform saw the most drastic changes it has seen in recent years. And it worked. Nike did this for the Oklahoma Sooners as well, with the Sooners wearing white jerseys with the same chest emblems.
