Nike sponsors a lot of countries’ national basketball teams. This shows how global the company has gone. Their work with the Team USA jerseys has been fantastic, but it pales in comparison to Spain. To be fair, Spain’s flag has one of the best color combinations out there with red and yellow. People love the color combination and can identify with it. Just ask McDonald’s.
They say when you look good, you feel good and you play good. If this is the case, perhaps Spain’s jerseys deserve some credit. Currently, they are ranked second in the world, trailing only the United States. Spain has quickly closed the gap between the USA and the rest of the world, consistently giving them a close game when they play.
The color scheme is simple, but it works great. Red is always a great choice for uniforms, but this bold red is even better. It really pops and it’s a bold shade, appropriate of a country like Spain. But the yellow lettering and detail is what brings it all together. You need a strong color to pop on a bright red uniform and the yellow does precisely that. Nike even added a subtle dark red stripe down the jerseys, which looks extremely nice.
It’s a compliment to say a national team’s uniform looks like a manifestation of their flag. Especially when you have an awesome flag like Spain. Nike did a darn good job with their basketball uniforms, proving they are smart enough to stay with the classic look if it works.
