Since joining the ACC, the Florida State Seminoles football team has been dominant on the field. It took them five seasons to experience their first loss in conference play. Starting in 2000, the Seminoles have not only played well, but looked sharp as well. In 2000, Nike added their now famous patterns to the neck area and sleeves.
Florida State has one of the best color schemes in college football. They go with garnet, a shade of red which resembles maroon, and gold. The Seminoles do this to honor their namesake. Most schools named after Native American tribes don’t do their namesakes justice. However, Florida State goes out of their way to support Seminole tribes, so they get huge bonus points.
Their collar stitching is a tribal accent which honors the Native American tribe. Likewise, their shoulder pattern resembles one often worn by the Seminoles in the past. Also, their helmet is one of the most recognizable in college football. It features the gold with a garnet colored face mask. However, the most famous parts of the helmet are the tomahawk logo and the stickers.
The Seminoles erred briefly from this look when they tried a black version of this uniform in 2014. However, it was terrible and it didn’t work. This is a lesson to everyone. Don’t mess with perfection. Florida State has stuck primarily with this look since finalizing it in 2000. There have been some subtle changes, but for the most part, the Seminoles have stuck with their excellent, classic uniform.
