Maryland: Stillwater Artisanal Ales, Gose Gone Wild

Many of us have had moments of indiscretion. Maybe a night is a little blurry or the day threw caution to the wind. Those free escapades can create great moments that are forever remembers. Stillwater Artisanal Ales embraces the artistic collaboration in its unconventional brewery.

Highly regarded by beer rankings, food magazines and other beer gurus, Artisanal Ales is the brainchild of Brian Strumke. The electronica DJ and producer seemed an unlikely brewmaster. His unusual brewing techniques and flavors combinations should not work, but created oddly, wonderful beers. These concoctions quickly gained much praise with beer contests.

According to the company’s website, the founder believes that his “artisanal craft brewery is an art project/collective where collaborations with other like-minded visionaries leads to boundary pushing concepts and creations.”´ Don’t expect a boring light beer or a simple plain bottle from Stillwater Artisanal Ales.

While the company doesn’t want to be just a brewery, the bottles represent its commitment to artistic endeavors. The intricate pictures combine digital art and tattoo artistry. Also, many of the labels reference pop culture, politics and social commentary

On beer to try in the Artisanal Ales line is the Gose Gone Wild. Many people can get the party reference in the title. The label calls out that thinking too. This beer uses Brettanomyces, the somewhat funky strains of yeast, to create a party infused beer. It is hoppy yet somewhat unusual. As the label says “get funky” and go get wild with this beer.

Artisanal Ales are available at select retailers.
