Delaware: Dogfish Head Brewery, 60 Minute IPA
Named after the area where the brewery’s founder spent his summers, Dogfish Head Brewery is Delaware’s best known brewery. Featured in the documentary, Beer Wars, this brewery experienced tremendous growth in the early 2000s. Today, the brewery’s beers are available in over 30 states.
Dogfish Head Brewery often creates unusual beers alongside its more traditional IPAs. Its collaborations with other brands and companies helped to increase the company’s name recognition. Also, the unique creations, like green beer made with algae or beer served in a brown paper bag, help to solidify the brewery’s distinctive space in the beer industry.
Putting aside the kitschy beers, Dogfish Head Brewery is best known for its IPAs. The most drinkable IPA in the line is the 60 Minute IPA. The beer gets its name by the length of the beer’s boil. This beer, 60 minutes, is how long hops are added to the brewing process.
Dogfish Head Brewery describes the 60 Minute IPA as “a powerful but balanced East Coast IPA with a lot of citrusy hop character.” The beer is quite drinkable. It is perfect for a seafood boil or a fresh catch. Even those away from the shore will be feel transported to the East Coast with every sip.
Even with its hoppy characteristics, the 60 Minute IPA is quite balanced. Even non-IPA fans can enjoy this continuously hopped IPA. Like other East Coast IPAs, the citrus notes help the beer’s drinkability.
Dogfish Head Brewery 60 Minute IPA has 6.0 ABV and it available at various retailers.
