Wisconsin: Leingenkugel Summer Sandy
For over 150 years, the Wisconsin way of life has been brewed into the Leingenkugel brand of beers. Founded by a German immigrant, Jacob Leingenkugel, the brewery sought to bring the beers of his homeland to the Wisconsin area. Over time, these beers and the brewery has become part of the Wisconsin history and lifestyle.
For anyone not from Wisconsin or the Midwest, here’s a tip. Don’t refer to any Leingenkuegl beer with the full name. It’s simply, Leines. If you say the whole name, everyone will know that you aren’t familiar with the beer.
Every summer the brewery holds the annual Family Reunion. The special event brings together fans, beer lover and locals on the grounds of the Leinie Lodge. The event is filled with special events, food and beer. It is a great way to give back to both fans of the beer and the local Wisconsin community that has supported the brewery.
Since the Wisconsin lifestyle plays a role in many of its beers, Leinies beers reflect an outdoors feel. From a day on the canoes paddling with friends to lazy summer days at the lake, each of the beers embrace an outdoor experience.
The Leine’s Summer Shady is a perfect summer beer. A shandy is a beer that is half beer, half lemonade. Created in Munich by Franz Krugler, the beer was created when he was afraid to run out of beer after a big bicycle race. To avoid running out, Krugler cut his beer with lemonade and soda.
The Summer Shandy builds on this German tradition. Leinies take its Wiess beer and blends it natural lemonade flavor. The resulting beer is crisp, refreshing and a real thirst quencher.
This Leinie beer is available in most retail markets.
