Arizona: Oak Creek Brewing Co, Nut Brown Ale
Nestled in the breathtaking backdrop of the Sedona red sandstone formations, Oak Creek Brewing Co has secured its spot as a top Arizona brewery. Take a break from hiking and biking and relax the afternoon away with the brewery’s Nut Brown Ale.
Oak Creek Brewing Co is Sedona’s only microbrewery. Founded in 1995, the brewery created beers in an old-school German style. The founders took their German brewing knowledge and translated it into this Arizona brewery. Over the years, Oak Creek Brewing Co has received several awards.
One of the brewery’s well known brews is the Nut Brown Ale. Generally, a nut brown ale is dark amber in color and has slightly nutty notes. For a dark color beer, the alcohol content is gernally not too high. American nut brown ales often has a slightly bitter accent due to American hops.
The Oak Creek Brewing Co’s Nut Brown Ale is slightly malty yet retains its drinkability. The brewery describes this beer as ” consistent nutty flavor with just a hint of spice in its depths.” The more robust flavors seem somewhat unlikely for the Sedona location. I would have thought that a more crisp, citrus like beer would be popular in Arizona. But, when the beer is paired with a juicy steak with the Sedona red sandstone formations in view the combination is outstanding.
Even if you don’t make it to Sedona, pour yourself an Oak Creek Brewing Co Nut Brown Ale and escape into its flavors.
Oak Creek Brewing Co’s Nut Brown Ale is available in the tap room or at various retailers.
