Louisiana: Abita Brewing Company, Big Easy IPA
When I think of Louisiana, New Orleans pops into my head. The crawfish boils with the succulent little crustaceans make my mouth water. The sounds of Preservation Hall and the local jazz artists with the uniquely American style of music. The freedom and frivolity of the annual Mardi Gras celebrations cannot be described in a simple sentence. When it comes to picking a Louisiana beer, only one beer comes to mind, Abita.
Abita is Louisiana’s brewery. The company makes a variety of beers, hard sodas and sodas. The tap room is located in Covington, Louisiana. Usually, the tap room offers all the Abita year round beers, select seasonal beers and hard sodas.
Abita Brewing Company describes its beers as made in the way people enjoy living their lives in Louisiana. Every style is represented in the brewery’s long list of beverages. From the ironically titled Purple Haze to the fruit forward Strawgator, even the non-beer drinker in the group can find a beer in the party pack that fits him.
Thinking back to a Louisiana lifestyle, the Big Easy IPA is a great representation of the brewery. Like many people from the area, this IPA has an easy going quality. While it maintains a hoppy characteristic of an IPA, the beer is remarkably easy to drink. The beer has some citrus qualities and a few piney flavors. Overall, you can drink a whole Big Easy IPA without a care in the world.
The Big Easy IPA would be great at fish boil or with a bowl of gumbo. The citrus flavors would play perfectly off the spiciness of the Louisiana style food. Or, if you prefer, the Big Easy IPA could make a great companion for the annual Mardi Gras parades. Beads aren’t included though.
Abita Brewing Company beers are available at a variety of retailers.
