Michigan: Founders Brewing Company, Kentucky Breakfast Stout
One of the most prominent breweries in Michigan, Founders Brewing Company. Having been ranked as one of the best breweries, this Michigan based brewery is known for its darker, heavier beers. Maybe the harsh Michigan winters prepare beer drinkers for the high alcohol content in these hearty stouts.
According to Founders Brewing Company, the brewers sought to create “complex, in-your-face ales, with huge aromatics, bigger body, and tons of flavor.´ These beers aren’t for the gulping. The beers tend to push the boundaries of beer tastes. If you are looking to drink quite a few non-descript beers in an afternoon, don’t seek out Founders Brewing Company beers. If you want to challenge your tastes buds and put a little hair on your chest, pour yourself a draft.
The brewery’s most sought after beer is the Kentucky Breakfast Stout. This limited release beer is an imperial stout. The beer is heavy on coffee and chocolate. For an entire year, the beer ages in oak bourbon barrels. The aging gives it a refined finished. If you can get this limited release in April, enjoy every last sip.
While the Kentucky Breakfast Stout is highly sought after, the brewery has many other year round beers that are also quite tasty. The All Day IPA is perfect way to end a hard day. Balanced and clean, the hoppy aromatics are quite drinkable.
Founders Brewing Company beers are available in select markets.
