Pokemon Go looks quite simple, but there’s plenty to learn.
Do you want to be the very best, like no one ever was? Is catching Pokemon your real test, and training them your cause? Then you’ve probably already downloaded the mobile app Pokemon GO, available for both iOS and Android. It may be that your Pokedex is nearing completion, or you’re still trying to figure out how to join a Team.
Hence this set of hacks and tips for Pokemon GO mastery, from the very basics like type charts all the way up to the legendary Pokemon.
30. Team Basics
While Trainers start out without any affiliation, the game doesn’t really open up until you do join a Team.
The game gives you a brief tutorial in how to catch Pokemon and generally play the game when you begin. Unsurprisingly, you have to start out as level 1. So, you’ll need to grind your way up to level 5. Once you reach that and visit a gym, Professor Willow will offer you the chance to join one of three teams.
Valor, led by Candela, is the red team. Moltres represents them. According to the game, members of Team Valor value being the very best and training and bonding with their Pokemon.
Mystic, led by Blanche, is the blue team. Articuno represents this team. The game says that members of Team Mystic are fascinated by the science of Pokemon, especially evolution.
Instinct claims Spark as its leader and the color yellow. To round out the legendary bird trio, Zapdos represents Team Instinct. This one is not very subtle: Team Instinct members go with their guts.
Once you join a Team, you can start training in Gyms held by your team. You can also go and try to take Gyms from other teams, for Team pride. If you’re having trouble picking a team, just go with whichever leader looks coolest to you.
