30 Pokemon Go hacks and tips you need to know

20. When will the second generation be out?

We’ve now taken a good look at the Pokemon available in the game, even the ones you can’t necessarily catch right now. (Sorry, legendary bird enthusiasts.)

But there aren’t just 151 Pokemon anymore. The official Pokedex now lists 720 species, from Bulbasaur to Hoopa, and there are more on the way with Pokemon Sun and Moon coming out later this year.

Fans divide Pokemon into generations based on the games they first debuted in. For example, the original 151 are Generation I. The natural progression for Pokemon GO would be to introduce Generation II, or the Pokemon from Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Pokemon from that generation include Espeon, Umbreon, Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Togepi.

Speaking at Comic-Con earlier this summer, Niantic CEO John Hanke said that the company is working on how to integrate multiple generations of Pokemon into the game. He did, however, decline to give a specific timeline. In fact, he specifically used the words “months and years” when discussing adding new Pokemon.

It’s likely that until Niantic adds in more mechanics to the game, like trading, they won’t get to adding in Generation II and later. At least the server issues are mostly fixed. Focus on catching the already-available Pokemon for now. That Magikarp won’t evolve into a Gyarados all by itself, you know?
