23. The strongest Pokemon in-game
Whether you want to be a Gym conqueror or Gym defender, the quickest way to do that and become a better Trainer is to get strong Pokemon. As you level up, you run into stronger Pokemon overall, a documented phenomenon. So leveling up your Trainer gets you rarer and better Pokemon anyway.
But what Pokemon are worth training heavily and actively looking out for?
The Silph Road, another Pokemon fansite, has done the math. You can sort the page there by highest Attack, highest Defense, highest Stamina, as well as best all-around stats. For reference, the best attacker is Mewtwo, while Articuno has the highest Defense. If Stamina is your be-all end-all, check out Chansey or Snorlax. The all-around crown belongs to Mewtwo as well.
Dragonite combines excellent Attack and Defense, with middling Stamina; they evolve from Dratini. Lapras are also easier to obtain than Mewtwo and Articuno, and a Lapras has great Defense with good Attack and Stamina.
A good Vaporeon will also get you pretty far, with its good all-around stats, and it’s relatively easy to obtain one. Especially in the early game, a Vaporeon can serve you well. If Gym-taking is your priority, an Arcanine is not tough to obtain, and they come with a nasty Attack stat. Flareon also comes with a healthy Attack stat.
