    12. Maximizing Incense

So, you’ve gotten your free Incense, or you’ve spent some precious Pokecoins on some to increase your Pokemon-catching rate for 30 all-too-short minutes.

Generally speaking, most suggest that you use Incense while you’re not moving. It spawns Pokemon for you, so why not use it when you can’t go find them yourself?

However, pairing it with a Lure Module may not be a bad idea either. Lure Modules can be attached to a PokeStop; if one has a lure, you’ll see pink confetti flying around the stop (and probably plenty of other users in the real world).

Finally, one data miner on Reddit has found what appears to be the optimal method for using Incense. Apparently, if users continue moving while the Incense is effective, the spawn rate will increase from once every 5 minutes to once a minute. Of course, that requires you to move about 200 meters between each Pokemon spawning, or about 656 feet.

To maximize the move-and-catch method, it’s best to turn off your phone’s camera while trying to catch Pokemon. That makes it tougher to lose the Pokemon. While it may be cool to see that Butterfree in the real world, if you want more spawns, you’ll need to catch them quickly.
