30 Pokemon Go hacks and tips you need to know

adminBy adminApril 23, 2023

5. Pokemon evolution

To evolve Pokemon, you’ll need plenty of candy, a topic mentioned when we discussed using Lucky Eggs wisely. Each family of Pokemon uses a specific kind of candy, named for the unevolved form. For example, Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise all use Squirtle Candy.

You can obtain candy in one of three ways. First, catching a Pokemon of that species gives you candy for that species.

Second, you can turn in Pokemon to Professor Willow, who will give you candy in return. (Simply go to the Pokemon you want to trade in, open the menu in the lower-right, and select transfer. After confirming you want to do it, you’ll get your candy.

Third, hatching Eggs gives you candy, just as if you’d caught the Pokemon in the wild. Reportedly, you get anywhere from 5 to 40 candies depending on the CP of the hatched Pokemon.

However, different Pokemon require different amounts of candy to evolve. Serebii.net has sorted the Pokemon by how many candies it takes. Pidgey, Metapod, and Weedle all take just 12 candies to evolve, making them ideal for Lucky Egg XP grinding. Generally, you’ll need anywhere from 125-150 candies total to evolve a Pokemon twice.

There is one big exception to this rule: Magikarp. To get a Gyarados, you’ll need a whopping 400 Magikarp Candies. Better hope you get a lot of 2 km Eggs or have a good Magikarp-catching spot.
